SRI maintains a relatively loose administrative structure, and all associates have equal opportunity to make input on decisions related to the overall management of the organization. No single member or board of directors manage the group, however a number of committees organized by the members exist to address specific functions such as investigations, scientific standards, membership, newsletter and web content, and website technical administration.

SRI as an organization subscribes to the flesh and blood interpretation of the bigfoot phenomenon, but takes no position on the pro-kill/no-kill argument, leaving each associate to make that decision for him/herself. Most associates maintain a relatively skeptical approach to the sasquatch phenomenon.

SRI associates come from a variety of backgrounds, and many associates are members of other sasquatch-related organizations. Membership is open to anyone with similar interests and philosophy, and interested persons may contact SRI on the SRI website for more information.

SRI maintains a website with a variety of sasquatch-related articles, published reports investigated by SRI associates, and other news of interest to bigfoot enthusiasts. The site became available to the public at the end of 2005 and at the same time the first version of CoRE (Comprehensive Research Exchange), SRI's sightings database, became available to accept publicly submitted reports.
