The now defunct Bigfoot Research Project was operated by Peter Byrne and operated out of Mt. Hood, Oregon. It was a benign scientific investigation designed to prove the existence of a "large, bipedal, hair-covered hominid" believed to be living in the forested mountain ranges of the Pacific Northwest.

The project, funded in part by and conducted in association with the Academy of Applied Science, Boston, MA, was, at the time, the most professional and sophisticated approach ever attempted on the subject and the only one of its kind in the country.

Techniques and procedures used in the Bigfoot Research Project were ahead of their time and included the compilation of both current reports and historical evidence.
