Great apes, or hominids, are the members of the familiy Hominidae and include: humans, chimpanzees (common and bonobos), gorillas, and orangutans. The so-called 'lesser apes' or family Hylobatidae, are the gibbons and siamangs of southeast Asian and Indonesia.

Most people believe that if sasquatches exist, they are almost certainly members of the great ape family. Where exactly they may fall within the family is open to much wider debate and speculation.
