Marie Dumont founded the Mid Florida Bigfoot Research Group in 2019 but started her group on Facebook in 2021 when she couldn’t find any group that specialized in Florida Bigfoot/Skunk Ape research. It was then that she created her group in order to provide a safe place where fellow Florida researchers could collaborate and share their findings and knowledge with one another without being ridiculed.

According to their website, this dedicated research group was formed to raise awareness and to collect as much physical evidence as they can in order to prove that Bigfoots and Skunk Apes do exist in the state of Florida in order to help protect their habitats from the heavy development going on throughout the state.

Their web site contains team bios, a large gallery of research photos, podcast, event, and publication links, sighting/encounter reports, facts about Florida, and other helpful information blogs for researchers.

The Mid Florida Bigfoot Research Group team has over 30 years of investigation experience and are serious, dedicated Bigfoot and Skunk Ape researchers who are out in the deep swamps and woods doing field research every single weekend and has been doing that ever since Marie Dumont first started the group.

Their major research areas of interest include the Green Swamp, the Ocala National Forest, the Everglades, Big Cypress National Preserve, Myakka State Park, Colt Creek State Park, Jennings State Forest, and lesser-known areas outside of Tampa (Hillsborough, Pasco and Polk Counties)

In March 2024, the Mid Florida Bigfoot Research Group was the feature cover story in Daniel Perez’s ‘Bigfoot Times’ newsletter for their discovery of a ¼ mile trackway of 16-inch foot prints that had a 54-inch stride at Jennings State Forest outside of Jacksonville Florida. They also had an encounter at their campsite later that night which included something heavy and bipedal walking around Marie Dumont’s car and pushed it while she was in it trying to sleep.
