Southern Fried Bigfoot

Southern Fried Bigfoot is a 2007 documentary about the Bigfoot legends of the American South. It covers several Southern Sasquatch legends including The Fouke Monster, the Lake Worth Monster, the Honey Island Swamp Monster, and the Skunk Ape. Interviewees include Loren Coleman, Craig Woolheater, Chester Moore, Jr., and John Bindernagel among others.

Production

Independently-produced, the documentary was shot over a five-year period throughout the Southern US. It was written and directed by Sean Whitley, produced by Whitley and Mike Zeitzmann, and photographed by Zeitzmann, John Carstarphen, and Francisco Tristan. Chris Buntenbah shot and provided field footage of the Texas Bigfoot Research Conservancy. The documentary was edited by Misty Lane.

Reviews

Eduardo Sanchez, co-writer and co-director of "The Blair Witch Project", called it “the best Bigfoot doc of this decade,” while Alex Grecian, co-writer and co-creator of the Image Comics series "Proof" said “the production values and cinematography are terrific, the re-creations are well-done and the entire package is absorbing.” Fortean writer Nick Redfern called it “a highly-entertaining, thought-provoking and suitably atmospheric study of the beast of the Deep South.”

Premiere & Broadcast

The documentary had its world premiere on November 10, 2007 at the 2007 Texas Bigfoot Conference, and its broadcast premiere occurred on April 13, 2009 on The Documentary Channel - available on DISH Network and DIRECTV - where it remains in broadcast rotation.
