(Historic) Bigfoot Bash and Bounty – 2011

I attended the 4th Annual Bigfoot Bash and Bounty, August 27-28, 2011, at Home Valley in Washington State (near Carson). The park was lined with gaily colored booths with a variety of yummy foods, jewelry, plants, and exotic handicraft products. I couldn’t resist a wonderful bird-house and a hand carved canoe souvenir carved by Jason and inscribed with Bash info, and even a table of books for sale by Thom, more on that later.

This was the first semi get-together of the reconstituted Western Bigfoot Society (WBS); with my old Vice President, Patti Reinhold, and her family. There were oodles of other familiar faces from past ages also: Rob Cusic, Leanne McCoy, Kirk Sigurdson, Henry and Pam Franzoni, Deah Lael, beside the old WBS regulars like Ronnie Roseman, Rich Grover, and Don Monroe.

There were three main speakers; all ex-WBS speakers, so that was very interesting.

To lead off was Joe Beelart who covered some of the night related experiences that campers or Bigfoot investigators have. He listed six main areas.

1. Creatures watching you.
2. Unusual sounds or even a possible language.
3. Things walking at night, even following people.
4. Creatures that watch campers as they sleep.
5. Reported telepathic energy or inter-dimensional control.
6. The problem of UFO’s

Following Joe was science teacher and lecturer, Thom Powell. He is another terrific speaker. He started with his visit to the Hoyt family; Alan, April, and their daughter, in Onalaska, Washington. Here he found a habituated Bigfoot family that had multiple incidents with the family and confounded Thom by disconnecting cameras, a sign of advanced intelligence according to Thom. There were strangely arranged sticks trailside and apparent telepathic communication demonstrated. Thom’s discussion led to an introduction to Thom’s terrific book, The Locals, which is a “must” for those interested in Bigfootology. His next book is a fiction novel which he sold and autographed at a table in the park; Shady Neighbors. Although fiction, it had some basis in fact concerning baseball, where a Bigfoot was seen at a softball field in Yacolt, Washington. Another example was a possible Bigfoot burial which Thom told me later he learned of from his friend Ron Lewis in Ohio, where a possible grave was found and when disturbed they had insect problems and horrible dreams. The final speaker was Henry Franzoni and he had a really interesting coverage relating to the physics side of the phenomenon. Space and time, or “space or time,” not necessarily interrelated (hope I got that right Henry). And, he continues with the historic Indian thinking that everything is alive (I assume all material things), and that the Sasquatch can turn invisible at will – they disappear right in front to you. And, our brain works as an antenna, receiving information telepathically from Sasquatch and other sources, regardless of what language you speak – Urdu, French, whatever. It is a controlling feature also; that is, Sasquatch can make you walk off a cliff, or if you take a shot at one, you might think you hit him while in reality there was not a bullet in the chamber, you just thought you shot him before he disappeared to somewhere or somewhen. Another interesting Sasquatch ability is the power of ventriloquism; a voice could be seemingly coming from anywhere, when it’s actually in your mind.

Henry is at present working for the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission, which represents the interests of Native Americans of the Yakima, Nez Perce, Warm Springs, and Umatilla tribes. Speaking of the Yakima tribe; I met a member who related numerous tales of the Big Brother of the Mountains that watches over the trout, salmon, deer and elk. He requested that I not take notes, but commit things to memory. Duuuh…well, one tale I recall told of a frog like creature battling a Sasquatch with tent poles from a freshly cut pile on the Yakima Reservation. I’m lost without notes.

I met some people that requested an interview for a Bigfoot horror film they were developing. Doug Hudson wanted some rape and killing stories, so I told them of the Dzunuaquah stealing babies, and a family that was possibly killed in Kentucky by a Bigfoot. (Note: I capitalize Bigfoot because they are people just like Negros, Frenchmen, or Americans). The filming was done by Director Harry Tchinski while producer Julie Hudson did the cheering.

Retiring to the campsite for dinner we covered umpteen topics. One of which is the possibility of my starting up a Bigfoot museum in my garage for selected viewers. The material will be the vast collection of artifacts accumulated by Don Monroe (one of which is he is trying to get the hand of unknown origin back), lots of tracks, and a major collection of twisted horse mane examples. He has bones collected from a type of alter in Zac cave, one of which is identified as the patella of an extinct species of bison. With photographs, they will be re-assembled on a plywood cut-out similar to the alter. (Photo of Ray Crowe with T erry Coates as Bigfoot.)

We discussed future meetings of the Western Bigfoot Society. The first will be this Saturday, Sept. 3rd, at my house, at 6 PM. My friend Brenda will tell of a rock throwing incident. As several other people have stuff to cover we will probably do a “forum” type of format, inviting people to contribute. Hoping Rhett will bring and explain his new Bigfoot hut photos.

In the future, meetings will be held the first Saturday of the month at the Home Plate Cafe, 8501 North Lombard, Portland, OR, (owner Patty Deitz). This is where we last held meetings. Home Plate at: XXX-XXX-XXXX.

At the October meeting we plan to have Richard Grover as a speaker and he will be telling of 35 years of Bigfooting that will cover his association with the icon Roger Patterson. Also he will tell of Bigfoot knocking down trees, the killing of cats, and hoping he will bring photos of strangely stacked rock, in this case the smaller rocks are on the bottom.
