(Hoax) Lassen "Hand"
Matt Moneymaker released this on Facebook on 4/2/2021 from which he says he received from a woman. Here is the comments from Matt's original post.
Regarding Lassen “hand (?)” find from earlier today : Thank you to those who provided competent feedback and comparative images moments after I asked for it, which was moments after I received the image and spoke about it with the woman who had it in her refrigerator (along with the clump of dirt and maggots scooped up with it when she pushed it into a plastic bag with a stick).
I got your timely feedback while waiting for her to take it out of the refrigerator and shoot more photographs from different angles. When she sent more images from different angles it became clear that was indeed the grossly overgrown hoof of an enormous wild hog. From the angle she photographed in the ground there was a possibility that it was large hand missing some fingers. The comparative images some provided were very helpful. That’s what I needed. I didn’t see any images like those when just searching for “hog foot”.
The lesson from the Lassen hand is that physical evidence like bones, etc., can usually be identified pretty quickly if it is shared with a lot of people to ask for input, like with the Lassen find this morning. It only took ten minutes to investigate that potential evidence.
It still isn’t as clear with the supposed “thumb” bone in Florida. We don’t know that guy though. The difference is when the specimen is coming from a source who is willing to provide as many photographs of the specimen as requested, which she did for the Lassen find even though she didn’t want to touch it. Thanks again to those who provided early feedback and images. And no thank you to those who suggested it was just a couple of carrots.
Lassen "Hand" is actually a hog foot.
