Since 2006 Melissa has endeavored to explain the question of how and why artifacts sometimes occur in the casting of alleged bigfoot impressions, as described in a series of articles explaining the materials used and her casting procedures. The introductory article can be found here: Dermal Ridges, Flexion Creases and Casting Artifacts.

Melissa is married to Wayne Larson, and lives in Ohio now.

In 2012, Melissa released a photo purportedly of a Bigfoot's back by a trail cam that had been sent to her. After repeated attempts to contact the person who sent it, she released it in hopes someone else had been approached or knew more about it. What happened after that was a hurricane of controversy as skeptics and researchers alike, either attempted to debunk it or state it was the real deal. To this day, no one has successfully proven or disproven the photo one way or another.
